Is your life perfect? Are you as happy as you could possible be? If the answer is yes, then you may as well stop reading right now. But honestly I don’t think there are many people on this planet who would answer either of those questions with a yes and truly mean it. I think almost everyone on this earth would change at least a few things about their life if it was easy. And that’s just it – “if it was easy”.
We all wish it was easy to change our lives for the better. Wouldn’t it be fantastic if money wasn’t a concern and we enjoyed getting up to go to work or school every day? Of course it would, but the truth is that most people aren’t satisfied with their financial situation, with their relationships, with their appearance and so many other things. But you have to start asking yourself, “what am I going to do to change it?”
One thing we all love to do is complain. I’ll be the first to admit that I complain about so many things that I know for a fact I could change if I worked for it, but it’s “too much effort” or I “can’t be bothered” or “I don’t have the time”. There are a couple of aspects of my life that I wish I could change, but I’m too lazy. I guess I’m writing this post to help myself out more than anyone else, but hopefully a few of you will read this and realise that you can make the changes to your life that you want to make, and it can be easier than you think.
All those hours spent watching Netflix, Youtube, online shopping, napping, drinking and whatever else you might do in your spare time, could be spent being more productive. If you’re satisfied with your life and you enjoy coming home and doing those things, then great! Keep doing whatever makes you happy. But maybe you’re not fully satisfied and maybe you need some extra income right now. Well, find a way to earn some extra income in your spare time. Don’t sit down in front of the TV for hours after work, but instead earn yourself some extra income through retail arbitrage or matched betting or survey sites or something else. If you want something you have to go there and take it for yourself because no one is going to give it to you.
It baffles me when I think that we as humans will settle for anything less than perfect. Why should we settle when there are things that make us unhappy in our lives? If you’re bored, do something about it. If you don’t have as much money, do something about it. If you don’t enjoy your job, do something about it. If you’re not happy in your relationship, do something about it. Don’t complain about it all unless you’re actively trying to change your life. The truth is that most of us are much better off than we care to admit. Even some of the poorest people in the US and UK and other developed countries are better off than people all over the world. The chances are that if you’re reading this, then you’re very lucky. Out of 7.7 billion people, you’re one of the lucky few with access to a computer or a phone or a tablet and the internet, so maybe we should all stop complaining and actual do something about whatever it is we are complaining about.
Personally, I haven’t done enough to change the things I want to change. I’ve changed some things, but not enough. I want to set myself goals to achieve by the end of the year and that will be a great starting point for me. I want to enjoy my university degree, I want to enjoy my life and I want to be happy. Everyone deserves the chance to be happy, but we have to work hard for it.
Making major life changes can be very difficult, so start small and work your way up. If motivation is an issue (it is for me) then find ways to motivate yourself. We wrote a post on this a while ago if you want to check it out here. If money is an issue, start some side hustles to earn some extra cash. Retail arbitrage is a great method which I’ve started recently and we wrote a post on that too so check out our guide here. Change the things you eat to be more healthy. Take extra steps to be kind to others. Change some of the decor in your home. Start a new hobby. Change your morning or nightly routine. Any changes, no matter how small, can seriously affect the rest of your life in a positive way and make you much happier. So before you go to bed tonight, have a think about the things that you would like to change, and go for it. Seriously think about what the worst outcome could possibly be, and just go for it. It might just turn out to be the best decision of your life.
