30 random and interesting facts

Today I thought to myself “everyone loves to dazzle their friends and family with interesting facts right?”. Now I’m still not sure if it’s true that EVERYONE loves to do this, but I certainly do. The problem is that I don’t usually have many facts to dish out. So I set myself a task of finding 30 facts that are really interesting (and random-ish). Here they are:

1. At some point you will be the next person on earth to die 

2. Once in your life you were the youngest person on earth. 

3. There are more ways to arrange a deck of cards than there are atoms on earth 

(There are 8.0658 x 10 to the power of 67 possibilities!)

4. 2013 was the first year to have 4 different numbers since 1987 

5. The brain named itself 

6. Your age is number of times you have orbited the sun

7. You can always see your nose, you brain just ignores it 

8. If you drop a raisin in a glass of champagne, it will keep rising up and falling down

9. You have never seen your face, only reflections and pictures

10. Pigs can’t naturally look up at the sky

11. The only letter to not appear in the US states names is “Q”

12. Peanuts aren’t actually nuts 

(They’re legumes, just like beans and peas).

13. The oldest person on earth was born with a completely different set of humans

14. Mammoths were alive when Egypt’s Great Pyramids were built

15. Cleopatra lived closer to us than to the Great Pyramids being built

16. Sliced bread was only invented in 1928

(It was only sold as a whole loaf before that)

17. There was more time between the Stegosaurus and the T-Rex being alive than the T-Rex and you.

(It’s about 85 million years between those two, and 65 million years between T-Rex and us)

18. 66 years separated the first flight (1903) and the moon landing (1969)

19. Many of the stars you see at night could actually no longer exist

20. The last letter added to the alphabet wasn’t Z, it was J

21. A man wrote a book in 1898 which “predicted” the sinking of the Titanic 14 years later

(Seriously. He was called Morgan Robertson, check it out).

22. If you sleep for 8 hours a night every night and live until you’re 90, you will have spent 30 years of your life sleeping

(This doesn’t even include all those naps you’re having)

23. Petrichor is the name for the smell when it rains after a long period of warm and dry weather

24. Pandas don’t have a particular sleeping spot, they just sleep wherever they happen to be

25. Kangaroos have 3 vaginas

26. If a man urinates on a pregnancy test and it turns out to be positive, there’s a high chance he has testicular cancer

27. Niagra falls completely froze over in 1911

28. The distance between your ear lobes is the same as the distance between your nipples 

29. The dots on dominoes and dice are called pips

30. Omphalophobia is the fear of belly buttons
