7 quotes to inspire you in the gym (and in life)

Let’s face it, we all need a push from time to time. We need something to give us that drive and inspiration to go and achieve what we want to achieve. Staying fit and healthy by going to the gym is something people love to put off doing. Even when people go to the gym, a lot of the time people do not push themselves anywhere near enough as they should. If you’re struggling to find some motivation, here are 7 quotes that you should remember:

1. You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

This one is for those who choose not to do something because they are worried they are not good enough or worry that they will not be as good as others. If you do not start doing something, how do you expect to get any better? You must start if you want to make the progress you desire.

2. The only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen.

Some people, myself included, like to complain after a workout that it wasn’t good enough or that it was pointless, but any workout is better than no workout at all, so keep doing what you’re doing. Every little bit helps in the long run.

3. To get something you’ve never had before, you have to do something you’ve never done before.

Everything you’ve ever achieved in your life has come by doing something you’ve never done before. In order to be better, you need to do more than you are currently doing. This one is about pushing yourself to be the best you can be by stepping out of your comfort zone.

4. Whether you believe you can or whether you believe you can’t, you’re probably right.

This is probably my personal favourite on this list. Stop telling yourself you can’t do something and just give it a go. If you are at the gym and you start getting tired, don’t just give up thinking you can’t do one more rep, put in all your effort and prove yourself wrong.

5. It hurts now, but one day it will be your warm up. 

You can’t make progress without pain, so when you’re hurting just remember that a few weeks or months down the line you will be lifting the same weight as a warm up. That should be enough to give you the drive you need to keep going and work harder.

6. The body achieves what the mind believes.

Similar to number 4, you have to believe you can do something before you do it. If you don’t believe you can do something then you will make no progress. Have faith in yourself and you will reach those goals.

7. In order to achieve your goals you will need to become persistent. 

Progress is slow. Don’t expect to be squatting 200kg or benching 100kg in your first week at the gym. You need to be persistent and you need to be patient. Don’t just give up after a few weeks or months because you aren’t making the progress you desire, push yourself and work harder to achieve those targets.
