Confidence doesn’t just come to us overnight, we have to work out to feel confident in our abilities. So many people struggle with their confidence and this can affect everything we do. Confidence is so important, so here is our guide on how to grow your self confidence in 9 steps:
1. Envision a better version of yourself
If you picture a better version of yourself you will become determined to be that person, so you will naturally take steps to attempt to be a better you. Through taking these steps and becoming what you feel is a better person you will become more confident in who you are.
2. Stop focusing on the negatives
Negative thoughts can bring you down and can leave you over-analysing situations. Try to cut out those negative thoughts and instead focus on trying to find solutions to your problems and keep a positive mindset. Whenever you start to think negatively, change those thoughts to positive ones.
3. Cut out negative people
As well as stopping yourself from thinking negatively, cut out or at least take a break from those people around you who put you down and put negative thoughts into your head. It is important that the people around you support you and make you feel confident in yourself.
4. Do something you’ve been putting off doing
We all love to procrastinate from time to time, but instead of delaying doing something you’ve been wanting to do for a while go ahead and do it. Once you’ve done it you will feel so much better about yourself as you feel a sense of accomplishment.
5. Keep a straight back, smile and hold your head high.
A good posture, a smile on your face and keeping your chin up all go a long way to giving the impression to others that you are confident in yourself. Once you give off this impression, you will even start to feel it yourself.
6. Do things that scare you
We all have our fears, and getting over a fear is one of the best things you can do to inspire confidence in yourself. It could be something small or it could be something huge, but whatever it is, try to do something that scares you. Even just attempting it can make you feel so much better.
7. Help other people
Helping other people is another one that will go a long way to building that self confidence. The feeling you get when you help someone, especially a stranger, is so great. It makes you start to think of yourself as a better person than you were yesterday and this is a huge step to take.
8. Start to accept and learn from failure
Everyone fails at something at some point in your life, but there is nothing wrong with failure if you use that to learn something new. If, every time you fail, you choose to give up and do not nothing but sulk then your confidence will slowly fade. It is so important that you learn from your mistakes and do not give up. If you fail at something, try again. Keep trying until eventually you get it, because when the day comes that you accomplish your goal you will feel so amazing about yourself and it will come as a huge confidence boost.
9. Question your inner critic
Whenever you think something negative about yourself, don’t just accept it but question it. If you think to yourself “I am not good at this” or “I am a failure”, ask yourself “why am I not good at this?” or “why am I a failure?”. If you have no answers then you have just proven that you were wrong about yourself. However, even if you come up with a million answers, use those as motivation and set goals to try to overcome your issues.
